The difference between determination and stubbornness

Video from the UKFrank Saliki

These two words are similar, and are even commonly used among people for the same attitude. In fact, they are very far from each other. One of them is depriving us of many opportunities that can help us achieve our goal. Which one is it?

The difference between determination and stubbornness

Both words express an unchangeable attitude towards achieving a certain goal.

Determination means that we have a goal that we pursue despite adverse circumstances.

“Hard work and determination will get you the furthest. Get the best out of yourself every day. Work on small things. ”

Ada Hegeberg

When we are stubborn, it is very difficult to get us to change our minds. We insist on our position, although it may be irrational. We are not open to new directions and ideas and we defend “our truth”.

If we are determined, we are passionate about our goal and are willing to do almost anything to achieve it. By stubbornness, on the other hand, we close the doors of the possibilities that open up around us.

"Stubbornness and obstinacy are directly proportional to the limitations of our : we only reluctantly accept what goes beyond our horizon"

Francois de La Rochefoucald
